Work location: Meridian Corporate Bldg 1 9601 S MERIDIAN BLVD, Englewood, CO
Job Description
EchoStar is building and operating the technology backbone behind our video, wireless, and enterprise services. Our IT Finance organization exists to make technology spend financially meaningful: accurate, traceable to the departments and initiatives it supports, and actionable for the leaders accountable for it.
We are seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to serve as the primary financial partner for assigned IT departments. This role is the bridge between technical operations and corporate strategy. You will own the planning and forecasting cycles for your departments, partner with Accounting to ensure month-end accuracy, support the Technology Business Management practices that make technology costs transparent to the business, and translate departmental performance into executive-level insight and recommendations. This is a high-visibility role in a function that is actively maturing, offering meaningful opportunity to shape process and reporting standards rather than simply operate them.
Primary Responsibilities
• Departmental Partnership: Serve as the primary finance contact for assigned IT departments, providing dedicated support for financial planning, spend analysis, business case development, and day-to-day operational queries. Build trusted relationships with technical leaders and translate effectively between engineering and finance perspectives. • Planning & Forecasting: Own the annual budget and rolling monthly forecasts for assigned departments, managing the interplay between capital expenditures for owned assets and operating expenditures for services and subscriptions. Ensure alignment with the broader IT roadmap. • Month-End Close & Reporting: Partner closely with Accounting to ensure accurate month-end accruals, reversals, and reclassifications. Deliver monthly executive summaries and variance analysis that link financial results to specific business strategies and departmental milestones, in compliance with GAAP. • IT Cost Transparency (TBM): Support Technology Business Management practices including cost allocation to towers, services, applications, and consuming business units. Maintain and improve the integrity of the cost taxonomy and application/service mapping so that reported costs are traceable, defensible, and comparable period over period. • Showback & Chargeback: Support the production and distribution of showback and chargeback reporting to business unit stakeholders, partnering with them to explain drivers behind their allocated technology costs and to resolve disputes over allocation methodology. • Performance Benchmarking: Develop frameworks that assign numerical and financial value to essential business functions, allowing leadership to assess and compare IT performance and cost-efficiency over time. Build and maintain KPI scorecards and recurring operational metrics. • Vendor, Contract & Commitment Management: Reconcile vendor accounts, support purchase order and requisition lifecycle activity, and track multi-year agreements, renewals, true-ups, and future pending commitments. Provide the “what-if” modeling leadership needs to evaluate long-term commitments. • Project & Investment Oversight: Conduct project reviews with financial oversight, supporting capital request evaluation, return-on-investment and total-cost-of-ownership analysis, and post-implementation review of major technology investments. • Strategic Recommendations: Create sophisticated financial presentations for upper management that go beyond the “what” to explain the “why,” offering data-driven recommendations that drive operational efficiency and identify cost savings. • Process Improvement: Continuously refine reporting capabilities, dashboards, and recurring analyses to reduce manual effort, improve close and forecast cycle time, and surface untapped opportunities for savings or resource reallocation. • Financial Stewardship: Act as a steward of financial accuracy and data integrity across systems and reporting, with a meticulous eye for reconciliation and source-of-truth discipline. Perform ad-hoc analysis in support of corporate initiatives as needed.
Education and Experience
• Education: Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. MBA or MS-Finance is a plus but not required. • Experience: 4–6 years of progressive experience in financial analysis or accounting, preferably in the technology or telecom industries. Experience supporting an IT organization, or a strong working understanding of IT cost drivers (infrastructure, software licensing, professional services, labor), is strongly preferred. • Certifications: TBM Council Certified TBM Analyst (CTBA) preferred, or willingness to obtain. CPA or CMA is a plus but not required.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
• Analytical Rigor: A rational, curious mindset with outstanding problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to seek, organize, and analyze data and draw valid conclusions. • Business Acumen: Ability to quickly grasp the IT operating model, synthesize ambiguous technical data into concrete results, and align financial reporting with company-wide goals. • Technical: Advanced MS Excel skills including complex financial modeling and Power Query. Proficiency with enterprise financial planning and reporting systems (Oracle, OneStream, SmartView, Essbase, or Adaptive Planning). • TBM & ITFM Platforms: Working knowledge of IT financial management tooling and TBM practice (Apptio Cost Transparency, ServiceNow ITFM, or equivalent). Familiarity with the TBM taxonomy and standard tower/service cost structures is strongly preferred. • Accounting Acumen: Solid understanding of accrual accounting, capitalization of labor and assets, capital versus operating expense treatment, and GAAP principles. • Communication: Exceptional interpersonal skills with well-developed oral and written presentation ability; can summarize complex financial concepts into clear, easy-to-follow materials for senior executives while retaining credibility with technical stakeholders. • Adaptability: Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment where processes and tooling are actively maturing, and motivated to help build them.
