As part of their role on the team, a successful Product Owner should fulfill the following duties and responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
Scrum Board Ownership (in partnership with Scrum Master and Product Owner)
o        Create cards with thorough acceptance criteria, necessary screenshots, and test cases
o        Ensure cards are tracked and completed through delivery
o        Represent the team’s work in cross-team ceremonies
o        Vet work items for robust business acceptance criteria
o        Ensure adherence to and maturity of the Definition of Done
Maintain a prioritized backlog that aligns with both business objectives and technical feasibility
Partner with up- and downstream teams to capture all requirements, verify needs are met, establish robust test plans, and ensure no assumptions are unvetted
Act as the conduit between product, development, QA, and TDM teams to eliminate silos and ensure smooth communication
Drive integration between front-end and back-end teams, proactively addressing pain points in planning and testing
Partner closely with the UX/UI team to ensure user-centric design
Work with the Domain Architect to support and advance the technical roadmap
Technical Analysis & Debugging
Analyze both legacy systems and new platforms (e.g., .NET, Azure Functions, SQL) to document workflows and dependencies
Validate API contracts, data types, and expected responses; ensure functional parity between legacy and migrated systems
Partner with QA to define test scenarios and advocate for early API testing to minimize late-stage defects
Recommend process optimizations for planning, data setup, and integration testing
Required Skills & Qualifications
Excellent critical thinking skills and the ability to bring clarity out of confusion
Technical acumen: Ability to understand code at a high level, test APIs, self-serve data analysis (skilled in SQL, comfortable parsing JSON, etc.)
Highly analytical with a hands-on approach—expected to dive deep into cards and topics and help with testing and validation
Self-starter who is eager and curious about optimizing team performance
Proven track record in analyzing complex systems and debugging issues across front-end and back-end
Excellent understanding of business workflows, with the ability to translate them into technical requirements
Hands-on experience with Agile methodologies, PI planning, and backlog management
Exceptional communication and collaboration skills for cross-team engagement
Ability to document end-to-end workflows and clarify technical dependencies
Familiarity with QA processes, test case generation, and integration testing
Bonus Qualifications
Experience with migration projects (legacy to modern platforms)
Prior experience in a hybrid role combining product ownership and technical analysis
